The Everest region Trekking is the most popular trekking in Nepal which is located in the northeast of Nepal at Sagarmatha National Park (1148 sq. Km.). Designated as a World Heritage Site in 1979, the park is composed of rugged terrain with deep gorges, glaciers & huge rocks and its vegetation changes from pine, hemlock, juniper, rhododendron and shrubs to alpine plants and then to bare rock and snow. This territory is also habitat for rare animals like ghoral, tahr, serow musk deer, impeyan pheasant, blood pheasant, red-billed chough and the yellow-billed chough. To reach at the base camp of Mt. Everest (8848 m.), highest peak of the world, either you have walk 10 days through middle hills of Solu or you can save energy by taking a flight to lukla. The walk with Sherpa’s can be unforgettable and a very touching way to know about their lifestyle and cultures. The other prime attraction in Sagarmatha National Park is also other higher peaks, like Lhotse and Cho Oyu, above 6,000 m.
A day walk from lukla airport climbs up the Dudhkoshi River Valley, and the next day brings you to the legendary Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar in the Khumbu (3,500 m) which has been the staging point for expeditions to Everest and other peaks in the area over decades. There lies traditional village of Khunde and Khumjung (the largest village in the Khumbu), which sits at the foot of the sacred peak Khumbila. It facilitates the Khunde Hospital, maintained by Himalayan Trust, and Khumjung School, the original Hillary School set up in 1960 lies here. There is a Tengboche Monastery, leading Buddhist center in Khumbu, surrounded by astonishing views of Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam, which is across the canyon from Khunde. There is good provision of rest houses, lodges and camping sites.
The walk continues from Tengboche to Pheriche, then to Kala Pattar and the hamlet of Gorakshep. From there the site of Everest Base Camp is easily accessible. From the summit of Kala Pattar (5,545 m) much of Mt. Everest is clearly visible. However, you must take time and be careful to properly acclimatize with sharp rise of altitude.
